PLAY ‘THE MAGNIFICENT & SHOWY PRISON CELL’ (2 minute 16 seconds)

THE WORDS …

‘the magnificent & showy prison cell’

The law of attraction seems to be having a laugh.

And the joke might just be that it attracts those of us who are searching for what we need by creating stuff. Read more

‘perpetual summertime’

Categories: featured, short words

perpetual summertime 1

A man lived perpetually in the summer time of his own life. He lit up the world that surrounded him. Unannounced. And unintentional.

Some who met him would wonder where the light came from.

And of those who wondered, some would realise that it had nothing to do with the outward circumstances of his life.

And of those who realised, some would recognise that the very same light waited for the chance to shine from deep inside themselves.

And for the brave who’d let it shine. It would.

FILM INTRODUCTION

So how does everything we create, start?

Perhaps it is with the relationship between two things, between us and a somebody or a something? Perhaps it is in our reaction with the world around us.

And if it is, do we have a responsibility to ourselves to act on such potential relationships when we know that there is a ’story crying out to be told’?

Dominic, Sting’s guitarist since 1990, has for a long time recognised this pattern in his composition. As for the standing naked, you will have to see the film.

‘all films’ - a dare

Categories: featured, film news

try all films 1I caught myself watching the entire film library. One after another, late one night last week. After spending time with the characters who graced the films I noticed something had changed. A very different perspective.

So if you’re able to clear an hour, armed with NO distractions & a pair of headphones, I DARE YOU to experiment. To watch one after another. And to notice what happens. To experience the power of film. And the power of spending time in extraordinary company.

the strange case of the \'desire to interview a painting\'

I have an idea that a true artist might realise that they are the one just ‘holding the brush’. Or the pen. Or the idea.

I recently had a conversation with Louis, who it seems paints like I believe I make films. And so we agreed to an experiment. I would attempt to make a short film using his paintings, alongside my words and guitar. But of course it might be wise to ignore the words ‘his and my’.

I am not sure entirely how to go about this. It can’t be any stranger than the making of ‘a window to the soul’.

I’ll probably interview them, the paintings that is. And see what comes up. But this time I can play the guitar (*) during the interview without the danger of seeming impolite. But there does exist a distinct and possibly embarrassing danger that they might not talk back. Or if they do, that I might not be listening.

Unsure exactly when I’ll make this film. But you’ll be the first to know.

————————

* someone did actually once ask me whether I played guitar throughout the ‘discussions’. They had this notion that it was all done in one shot. An interesting idea that I haven’t yet discounted.

a note from the film-maker

Categories: featured, film news

film page main graphic 1

Ok, the picture an inch north of here might not be the most accurate representation of the last few months.

True, I’ve filmed a number of subjects since the last monday9am film in February. But not that many. Although I do have many ‘in the can‘, and am currently working on films touching the subjects of; the opportunity within the meaning of family, the true nature of beauty, and on the subtle nature of prison.
