We are in the process of making the films downloadable without charge & playable as full screen movies. The download is a QuickTime/iPod M4V file.
My hope is that you’ll share the films freely without a preassumption of who might or might not get them. Feel at liberty to take the embed code from the player, and play on your sites/blogs etc.
‘ … we’re building a boat but we aren’t sure how to build it. Or even where it’s to sail. We just know for certain that we have to start building’.
This is how Edwin & I best describe our journey with Soul Biographies.
Now we’re looking for someone to join our boat. To help us spread the word of its voyage. To help work out how best to make us visible without telling the world it is a good thing. That is for the world to decide.
Perhaps we might best describe the position as ‘an online social marketeer‘.
I caught myself watching the entire film library. One after another, late one night last week. After spending time with the characters who graced the films I noticed something had changed. A very different perspective.
So if you’re able to clear an hour, armed with NO distractions & a pair of headphones, I DARE YOU to experiment. To watch one after another. And to notice what happens. To experience the power of film. And the power of spending time in extraordinary company.
‘ … Doña Chona seems tired but she isn’t frightened. And by frightened I mean the frightened you see deep in the eyes of most human beings. A frightened that hides itself well. A frightened that quietly shouts its assumption of isolation, and of loneliness.’
I have remade this film which was screened only once. Last year. It was the first time I ever recorded my voice. And came after translating the most subtle of experiences. An experience which led me to realise how easily missed life can be.
I look forward to Monday. As always. See you then.
I wondered about facebook. As whether to set up a ‘friends’ page or a ‘fan’ page. So I did both. But if truth be told I’d rather have a friend than a fan. Any day.
So do join me. As a friend. It is how I see the world. I’ll be using my personal page to chart the making of the films, and other thoughts. Even works on my iPhone. Might be fun. And you guys will get to see each other.
I am working on the next film, shot in San Francisco during the Summer.
It is challenging. I remember our time together well, the subject & I that is. But quite what the conversation means underneath the words we spoke I am still working out.
So I picked up my guitar and recorded the background (track 33), as I listened to the conversation. It helped. Now I can see the outline shape of the film. The words are yet to come. If I push it, I stand the danger of ending up with a clever film. So I won’t. What use is a clever film?
I imagine the film will be ready for 15th September. A Monday morning. The film alert will let you know.
PLAY TRACK 33
I completely forgot to post a schedule of where I’ll be. The point being that often film nights (or days) can be arranged at short notice by viewers. If the time exists between filming. Which it often does.
This is a BETA version of the site. I, Nic that is, need a little time to establish whether it all works without falling flat on its face. And to make a few more films.
The new content - including films & ‘thunk’ - will start rolling in on, or perhaps even before, the 1st September. A long way off but I seem to remember most of the world doesn’t pay much attention to the internet in August!
Take a good look around and feel free to comment by EMAIL on the site. That might be helpful.
p.s. do change any links that you might have from monday9am.tv to soulbiographies.com
It’s the line I’ve included under Soul Biographies.
I have an idea that an ability to see with clarity and without judgement enables us to recognise the experience of our own lives. Rather than think that we do, and push uphill to somewhere we are not really certain that we want to be.
And I have this idea that it is our ability to see each other with clarity that would probably fix all we believe we need to fix.
The haunting short film - ‘a window to the soul’ - might offer an insight into the possibility of such clarity.
The film introduction tells of the highly unusual approach to making this one. Possibly a first in any film-maker’s book.
