FILM INTRODUCTION What might define a life fully lived? It’s a question many of us probably mean to ask ourselves. But never do. Not with any tenacity.
Meet Alison. 93. Registered blind. Quietly spirited.
A chance encounter with a city gent wearing a pin striped suit, bowler hat & carrying a rolled umbrella might have gone unnoticed. If she’d been blind to the subtlety of life.
My time with Alison had led me to wonder if we all have a part to play in the life of another.
‘ … Doña Chona seems tired but she isn’t frightened. And by frightened I mean the frightened you see deep in the eyes of most human beings.
A frightened that hides itself well. A frightened that quietly shouts its assumption of isolation, and of loneliness.’

FILM INTRODUCTION Poverty appears a complex issue. A minefield of an issue. But what if behind the obvious suspects, the causes lie deeper. And as such poverty becomes a more common experience than we assume.

FILM INTRODUCTION Perhaps this film is about the responsibility we hold for ‘ourselves & our lives’ to listen to the quietest of voices. Perhaps it’s about our responsibility to listen to the voice of others when we know they speak the truth. And then to act.
Perhaps it’s about the possibilities in such changing times. With changes that are often imperceptible and we can’t seem to ‘touch’. But then again, perhaps this short film is simply about a truly extraordinary human being, who reflects something in all of us.
