FILM INTRODUCTION We have a need for certainty. So we presume that we know. That we control. That we’re in control.
But perhaps it’s our assumption that we’ll be here tomorrow that keeps us from our capacity to live.
And from our capacity to smile without reason.
So how does everything we create, start?
Perhaps it is with the relationship between two things, between us and a somebody or a something? Perhaps it is in our reaction with the world around us.
And if it is, do we have a responsibility to ourselves to act on such potential relationships when we know that there is a ’story crying out to be told’?
Dominic, Sting’s guitarist since 1990, has for a long time recognised this pattern in his composition. As for the standing naked, you will have to see the film.

I have an idea that a true artist might realise that they are the one just ‘holding the brush’. Or the pen. Or the idea.
I recently had a conversation with Louis, who it seems paints like I believe I make films. And so we agreed to an experiment. I would attempt to make a short film using his paintings, alongside my words and guitar. But of course it might be wise to ignore the words ‘his and my’.
I am not sure entirely how to go about this. It can’t be any stranger than the making of ‘a window to the soul’.
I’ll probably interview them, the paintings that is. And see what comes up. But this time I can play the guitar (*) during the interview without the danger of seeming impolite. But there does exist a distinct and possibly embarrassing danger that they might not talk back. Or if they do, that I might not be listening.
Unsure exactly when I’ll make this film. But you’ll be the first to know.

* someone did actually once ask me whether I played guitar throughout the ‘discussions’. They had this notion that it was all done in one shot. An interesting idea that I haven’t yet discounted.
Somehow we’d messed it up. Somehow I’d taken the trip downtown and the person I was to meet hadn’t.
What happens now, apart from the obvious rescheduling dance? What happens to my state of mind? And what happens to my experience of the next hour or so? Read the full story
You have a story worth telling. A story beyond powerful. But a story that’s difficult to tell. The world has to experience it, to experience you, in order to understand.
Your attempts to articulate that ‘vision’ and why you do what you do using words, falls short. Way short. Even to yourself.
What if you were able to capture ‘it’ on film. A captivating articulation of what you have always meant to say. And were then able to show the world.
After shooting this film (commission) and before its release, global innovation agency Maddock Douglas experienced a 25% rise in salesThis is what Mike Maddock, their founding partner had to say;‘… I met Nic at an MIT, global entrepreneurship program. Nic’s message, technique, passion and results immediately captured my imagination–so much so that we hired him to take a closer look at our company. Within a month, Nic had helped us to rediscover a part of our company that our clients cherished but we could no longer see. We’ve taken his valuable insight seriously and it has made our work better and our people happier. Most importantly, it has lead to clarity of vision which makes decisions about our future easier and more powerful.’CLICK FOR MORE ON WORKING WITH NIC

FILM COMMISSION AUDIO (1 minutes 38 seconds)
[the words to the audio]‘What might happen if the world were to be exposed to the true inner vision of an organisation.
To the intangible life that runs through it. To its reason.
Too often we and our organisations tell the world what we believe it needs to hear. But seldom does it express what we know to be true.
And truthful expression has a unique ability to change the world around us without pushing it.
With a camera and an ability to see beyond the usual words, I work with organizations to identify and to capture this intangible, this soul, and bring it to life on film. And within the organisation itself.
What might happen to your organisation if it were to identify and to articulate its soul.
And what might happen its performance and experience in the world it if it were to expose this soul.’
